On October 25, 1885, in Chancelade, Dordogne, the quarries collapsed, engulfing the workers and leaving the women in anguish: who survived and who succumbed to the catastrophe? Among the bereaved, one stands out. Marthe is the unhappy wife of François, a man of violence and revelry. He hasn't been heard from since the collapse, and his disappearance could mean a happy future for his widow, who secretly loves another man. But has François really disappeared?
Georges de Peyrebrune has turned a real-life working-class tragedy into an engaging, documentary novel, based on his investigations and meetings with those involved in and affected by the tragedy. With the powerful tool of the novel, the writer makes the silenced voices heard, denounces social injustice, and at the same time offers us a formidable tale of the end of a world.

FAQ

Here are the answers to the most common questions I get asked, please review them and reach out to me if you need more info on something, I love to help you pick the right book, just for you!

Are the books New?

Yes, all the books that I sell during my bookfairs or online on my e-boutique are brand new.. You will be the very first to flip all the pages and enjoy the feeling of holding your own book in your hand.

What defines the prices of the books?

As a passionate small business owner, my goal is to offer a high level of quality imported from France at the best price. I understand that some people may be surprised by the difference of price between French and American books. In France, books are more expensive as authors and illustrators get larger copyright compensations. Also, imports cost quite a bit if you take into account the price of transport as well as the weight of what is being transported. I appreciate your constant support, when you choose sustainable small businesses over large corporations.

Do you have a shop?

My main way of meeting you is book fairs, festivals and private sales. Ordering online through my e-boutique is the best way to support French Authors and Small Minority Owned business like mine. I also have a physical location present in Orange County accessible via appointment only. Please contact me through text to get more information!
