Le Crabe aux pinces d'or (1941) is a return to exotic adventure. Investigating counterfeit money, Tintin finds himself imprisoned on a ship, the Karaboudjan. On board, he meets Captain Haddock, an alcoholic sailor, and discovers the existence of an opium trade, hidden in crab cans. Tintin escapes with Haddock to Morocco, where he finally unmasks the gang of criminals.
