This documentary book from the “Les P'tits Docs +” collection tells the story of Josephine Baker, a great French-American artist known for her dancing, her resistance activities during World War II, and her defense of human rights.
An exceptional life
After growing up in poverty and segregation in the United States, Josephine Baker became a symbol of freedom in Paris during the Roaring Twenties. With her incredible stage presence and energy, she was a dancer and singer adored by all. When war broke out, she took in refugees and worked as a spy for the army. From the 1950s onwards, she adopted twelve children from all over the world, whom she called her “rainbow tribe,” and wanted to show with her large family that people can live together regardless of their origin or religion. Josephine continued to use her fame to further her causes and gave a speech in Washington during a march for black civil rights organized by Martin Luther King. She also showed her generosity through numerous donations to hospitals, schools, children, and more.
She was inducted into the Pantheon in 2021, a way of thanking this great lady who was passionate about justice and freedom.

FAQ

Here are the answers to the most common questions I get asked, please review them and reach out to me if you need more info on something, I love to help you pick the right book, just for you!

Are the books New?

Yes, all the books that I sell during my bookfairs or online on my e-boutique are brand new.. You will be the very first to flip all the pages and enjoy the feeling of holding your own book in your hand.

What defines the prices of the books?

As a passionate small business owner, my goal is to offer a high level of quality imported from France at the best price. I understand that some people may be surprised by the difference of price between French and American books. In France, books are more expensive as authors and illustrators get larger copyright compensations. Also, imports cost quite a bit if you take into account the price of transport as well as the weight of what is being transported. I appreciate your constant support, when you choose sustainable small businesses over large corporations.

Do you have a shop?

My main way of meeting you is book fairs, festivals and private sales. Ordering online through my e-boutique is the best way to support French Authors and Small Minority Owned business like mine. I also have a physical location present in Orange County accessible via appointment only. Please contact me through text to get more information!
