This fictional autobiography is based on a true story.
In 1518, a Maghreb ambassador, returning from a pilgrimage to Mecca, was captured by Sicilian pirates and presented as a gift to Leo X. This traveler’s name was Hassan al-Wazzan. He became the geographer Jean-Léon de Médicis, known as Leo Africanus. His life, punctuated by the major events of his time, is fascinating: he was in Granada during the Reconquista, from where he had to flee the Inquisition; in Egypt during the Ottoman conquest of the country; in sub-Saharan Africa at the height of the empire of Askia Mohamed Touré; and finally in Rome during the heyday of the Renaissance, as well as at the time of the city’s sacking by the soldiers of Charles V.
A man of both the East and the West, of both Africa and Europe, it would be hard to find a figure whose life more closely mirrored the astonishing era that was the 16th century. This fictional autobiography is based on a true story.

FAQ

Here are the answers to the most common questions I get asked, please review them and reach out to me if you need more info on something, I love to help you pick the right book, just for you!

Are the books New?

Yes, all the books that I sell during my bookfairs or online on my e-boutique are brand new.. You will be the very first to flip all the pages and enjoy the feeling of holding your own book in your hand.

What defines the prices of the books?

As a passionate small business owner, my goal is to offer a high level of quality imported from France at the best price. I understand that some people may be surprised by the difference of price between French and American books. In France, books are more expensive as authors and illustrators get larger copyright compensations. Also, imports cost quite a bit if you take into account the price of transport as well as the weight of what is being transported. I appreciate your constant support, when you choose sustainable small businesses over large corporations.

Do you have a shop?

My main way of meeting you is book fairs, festivals and private sales. Ordering online through my e-boutique is the best way to support French Authors and Small Minority Owned business like mine. I also have a physical location present in Orange County accessible via appointment only. Please contact me through text to get more information!
